| The growing mediums used in a hydroponic growing system are there for two reasons. One is to anchor the roots, the other is to allow air to circulate freely through the medium and around the root system. They do not provide any nutrient to the plant. |
Rockwool
Rockwool - Rockwool is most commonly used in drip irrigation systems and for starting seedlings and clones. For those of you unfamiliar with the usage of rockwool, here's a quick run-down. After the plant begins to grow in the starter cube, it is then placed into a 3" or 4" cube to continue growth. The 3" or 4" cubes may then be placed on rockwool slabs for further root growth. Typically, all three (starter cube, cubes & slabs) are used.
